PLEASE can someone inform the Vale of Glamorgan parks department that ‘soccer’ is a winter game.
The least bit of rain and the parks department call off all the matches on pitches that have a little bit of surface water laying on them.
Players are expected to get dirty and the pitches cut up, which means the parks department will have to carry out some maintenance work to get the pitches available for the following week – the clubs pay good money to play on the Vale pitches.
We are losing young players to the game of rugby due to the lack of playing soccer.
Some junior clubs have not played competitive soccer since the end of November 2011.
On Saturday, February 25, five pitches out of eight at the Butts fields were playable, as was Maslin Park.
So come on parks department, stop calling games off on a Friday morning and leave it up to the referee to decide if the pitch is playable or not.
