AFTER reading the letter ‘Cycle path not used’ (Barry & District News, February 23), I would like to put the letter-writer straight.

The cycle path on Millennium Way is used all the time - cyclists on one-part and walkers on the other. A cycle path is an option for you to use if you want to or not.

Many children and slower cyclists use this cycle path on a daily basis and I have never seen a child using the road. As for adults, the option is theirs.

I travel on this road on my racing road bike doing approximately 20mph, which I could not do safely on the cycle path. How is it danger-seeking using a push-bike?

And as for the finger gestures and mouthfuls of abuse; the only gestures or abuse I have witnessed always comes from car drivers as they speed past, so close to the cyclists that they almost knock them off their bikes - oh yes, and a loud horn beep for good measure.

Yes I do drive a car and a motorbike on the road as well.

Maybe if car drivers in the UK were taught about cyclists on the road when learning to drive, there wouldn’t be such negativity about them.
