THE Save Our Cinema Association (SOCA) group were extremely disappointed after losing the fight for Barry’s last cinema the Theatre Royal.

A new modern cinema is long overdue for our town and the current proposed Barry Island pleasure park development plan addresses this by means of allocated space to include a multiplex cinema provision.

With state-of-the-art 3D digital projection and comfortable viewing surroundings that cinema goers have come to expect from today’s multiplex operators, such a facility may also extend accessibility to a wider audience by offering National Theatre plays and Metropolitan Opera Live transmissions.

In today’s market there are many available options to enable individual film viewing choice. However, SOCA believes that giving Barry and the Vale community a preference of enjoying a film in a cinema environment should not be overlooked.

Therefore, it is hoped this facility will be looked at favourably and come to fruition as part of the decision making process when the proposed planning application is again considered by the Vale Council committee at its meeting on March 1.
