Rap school pupils showcase talent

SEVEN pupils from Ysgol Bro Morgannwg showcased their bilingual rap video about children’s rights to Year 9 pupils last week (July 14).

The rap video, called Choices/ Dewisiadaua, was an initiative backed by the Vale of Glamorgan Youth Service and the Vibe voluntary organisation.

The aim was to raise awareness of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Children (UNCRC).

The pupils wrote the rap, recorded it and made a video in four days.

Leonie Horton, Community Focused Schools co-ordinator, said: "The most challenging part of it was planning how to write a rap, and making it bilingual."

Ve Van de Voorde, Youth Participation Officer for the Vale of Glamorgan Youth Service, said: "When we approached the school, these seven young people immediately said they wanted to do it."

Pupil Bethan Yapp said: "It was a chance to do something new that I’d never done before. The hardest part was writing the rap lyrics as we didn’t know where to start."

The video will be available to see on the Vale Council website.
