CROWDS flocked to Sully Primary School recently to see Torchwood star John Barrowman open the annual summer fete.

The 42-year-old actor, who has a house in Sully, got proceedings under way at the school.

Other fair favourites on the day included music, vintage bus rides, a tug-of-war, raffle and a barbecue.

Chris Fletcher, Chairman of Sully School PTA, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to John Barrowman for taking the time to open the fete.

“A large number of people came out to see him, and were all very pleased.

“The fete went so well and, after a shower, the weather stayed warm and dry and everyone was able to have a fun afternoon.

“It was great to see the day go so well and raise a large amount of money to support the school for the future year.

“Mrs Bispham (headteacher of Sully school) is retiring at the end of this term after 18 years," he added.

"We wish her the very best for her retirement.”

Mr Fletcher thanked Barclays Bank, Bro Radio, Grab It Plant Hire, Plumb Centre Barry, the Vale Policing Team for attending, and Pc John Johnson for his dog display and information session.

Mr Fletcher added: “Many other local companies pledged their support and I would also like to thank all the parents, teachers and ex-pupils who helped make it a great day.

“It wouldn’t have been possible without them.”
