Former Barry hotel up for auction


A BARRY town landmark is one of the lots set to go under the hammer at an auction in London later this month.

The vacant former Royal Hotel, on Barry Road, Cadoxton, is expected to fetch between £200,000 and £300,000 when the property goes before prospective buyers at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington.

The freehold premises, billed of interest to builders and developers, comes with planning permission for 18 flats and four new-build apartments The property, covering a corner plot of 0.41 acres, is described as being located near local shopping facilities, with more available in the centre of Barry, and having leisure facilities available at Victoria Park.

The interior needs complete modernisation.

The building has a large room in the basement, a large former bar area, four rooms, and a WC on the ground floor, with ten rooms on the first and eight rooms on the second floors.

The Vale Council granted full planning permission for conversion and extension of the former hotel to 18 one-bedroom residential units in December 2007.

Permission for the development of four one-bedroom residential units at land adjacent to Kenilworth Road, Barry, was granted the same month.

The Receiver has ordered the auction of the building.

Bidding will take place on Monday, July 27.
