BARRY residents are being warned to be vigilant when approached by people offering to carry out work at their property, after two distraction burglaries in the Barry area.
On Tuesday, June 16, a man carried out gardening work for an 89-year-old man in Gladstone Road.
The resident later found a quantity of money had been stolen.
On Thursday, May 28, a man carried out gardening work at an address in the Barry Road area.
The female resident later found her purse had been stolen.
A 37-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the burglaries, and appeared at Barry Magistrates’ Court last week.
Detective Sergeant Julian Kerslake of Barry CID said: “There have been two incidents of residents being approached, and distraction burglaries being carried out.
“As always, we would urge residents to be wary of anyone cold calling and offering services.
“I would ask anyone who has been approached and has concerns about the callers to contact us.”
Anyone concerned can contact Barry CID on 01446 731636.
