Man's body recovered from sea by Barry Lifeboat and Coastguard

BARRY Island Coastguards and Barry Dock Lifeboat were called out on Tuesday evening to recover a man's body from the sea near Sully Island.

The man has not been formally identified, but police said it is thought to be one of two swimmers who went missing off Weston on June 23.

The Barry Dock Lifeboat was involved in the initial search for the men, both in their 30s, on June 24, along with Lifeboats from Burnham and Minehead, an RAF Rescue helicopter and HM Coastguard search parties.

A Barry Island Coastguard spokesman said: "With the hot weather, people are warned that the sea is not like a swimming pool but has currents and tides – so people must take care when entering the water.

"The sea is still quite cold and can sap one's strength very quickly."
