Man admits New Year's Eve drink-drive

A BARRY man who lost control of his car and left a pedestrian wheelchair bound on New Year's Eve has pleaded guilty to drink-driving and dangerous driving.

Barry Magistrates' Court saw CCTV footage of John Frisner, aged 26, driving his Alfa Romeo down Greenwood Street and failing to turn, hitting the pedestrian before crashing into a wall.

Andrew Gwyn, prosecuting, said: "If ever there was a case to show the effects of what drink-driving can do, this is it.

"The defendant failed to negotiate a right hand bend, lost control, clipped a car, and hit the 23-year-old victim some eight to ten feet into foliage.

"She has since had a metal plate fixed into her knee, which she will have for life."

When arrested, Frisner, of Lydstep Road, gave a reading of 70 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - twice the legal limit of 35.

The court heard how Frisner's girlfriend was adjusting the radio when he took his eyes off the road and lost control.

Magistrates committed Frisner to Cardiff Crown Court for sentencing on May 19.
