A BARRY writer with a cupboard full of unpublished manuscripts said waiting for judges to pass their verdict on her work has been a nail-biting experience.

Full-time carer Evonne Wareham, who was in the running for an American Title - an X Factor style competition for writers - said facing the public vote in the contest was a unique experience.

After making the top ten in a mainly American line-up, the author hoped her paranormal romance Out of Sight, Out of Mind would prove a favourite with internet voters world-wide and help her gain a much-longed-for publishing contract.

Evonne, 55, of Phyllis Street, Barry Island, who is unable to publicly reveal how she has fared in round one until the next publication of American Title magazine, said: "I was very apprehensive waiting for the results because I had no idea how far I would go.

"They describe it as a roller coaster and it is.

"It's absolutely amazing."

Evonne, a member of the London-based Romantic Novelists Association, was initially stunned when she discovered her entry had caught the judges' eye and she had made the final cut.

Public votes, via the internet, are in progress for the second round and voters can judge who has created the best hero and heroine.

Eight writers remain in the contest and the eventual winner will be announced in April next year.
