THIS week's From the Archive features a photograph of the Meredith Family who ran the butcher's shop next to St Mary's Church at 155, Holton Road.

The store was owned from the late 19th century to about 1955.

The picture was taken about 1910.

Back row, left to right: Jessie, Alfred (my father), Lily, and Gwyn.

Front row: James (my grandfather), Jim (Ivor?), and Emma (my grandmother).

Also, attached a copy of the 1911 census.

From what I remember, in the 40s and 50s, my father, grandfather, and uncle Jim actually worked at the store.

I lived with my parents, at 102 Pontypridd Road, until 1966, when I was married, and moved to Montreal, Canada.

At present I am living in Calgary, Canada.

Earlier this year I had the pleasure of visiting South Wales for five weeks.

It was quite an experience.

I am sure some of your older readers will remember the store.

The Barry & District News would like to thank Frank Meredith for the photograph and information.
