BARRY Island was the venue for a parade of past, present, and future Armed Forces community members marking the Armed Forces Day Parade and Festival 2018.

The Vale council-supported day, on Saturday, June 9, saw visitors and people from all over the county experiencing the funday event, with the chance to meet serving personnel and veterans.

Members of RAF St Athan Band and City of Newport Pipes and Drums, Royal British Legion Band Llanelli with MOD St Athan, HMS Cambria, 203 Field Hospital Volunteers, 614 Squadron, Cadet Associations, Veterans, Royal British Legion Riders Branch, Merchant Navy and the Royal Air Forces Association marched along the parade, to huge crowds.

Crowds enjoyed military displays and vehicles from the Royal Marine Unarmed Combat Teams, TS Cadet Gun Running, Military Preparation Training College, Military Climbing Wall and the Royal Navy Sea King Helicopter.

Vale council leader, Cllr John Thomas said: “The Armed Forces Day in Barry Island was an incredible way to remember and support the Armed Forces community, past, present, and future.

“It was great to see hundreds of people from all over the Vale, gather to mark the occasion and enjoy the day, particularly the military displays and vehicles.

“The event was fantastic success and it is clear that the organisers’ hard work paid off. Well done to all involved.”

A spokesman for the Royal British Legion thanked all involved and those who attended.

He said: “Armed Forces day was a great success and Veterans’ Gateway was proud to be part of it, here’s to many more.”
