A BARRY butcher had to quickly re-stock its glass bottles as residents concerned about the impact of plastic flocked to his shop.

Vic Hopkins & Son, in High Street, experienced increased demand after beginning to stock bottles supplied by Jones Dairies, also in Barry.

Amidst last week’s heavy snowfall in the town, the local dairy mobilised its environment-friendly milk floats to ensure the shop was fully stocked and customers could enjoy their bottled supplies.

Butcher Anthony Hopkins said: “The response has been amazing especially with younger customers when they understand that a glass bottle can be used up to 30 times before it’s recycled.”

Jones Dairies, in Dock View Road, recently revealed that the work of Sir David Attenborough had made an impact on business.

The portrayal of plastics on Blue Planet II has prompted new and old customers to make glass milk bottle requests.

Chris Jones, co-owner of Jones Dairies, has appealed for other businesses to address packaging issues.
