BARRY Town United Ladies U13 side secured a narrow win last weekend against title rivals Albion Rovers, with a late second half strike giving the visitors a 2-1 victory.

Albion Rovers had been unbeaten prior to their recent meeting with Barry and took the lead as they looked to gain revenge against one of their closest challengers.

Despite bossing the possession early on, Albion hit Barry on the counter and an unfortunate slip from Faith Mulenga allowed the Rovers' striker in on goal to slot past goalkeeper Riley Stanger.

But the hosts lead failed to last until the break, with the referee pointing to the spot after a Barry corner resulted in a hand ball in the box from an Albion player. Striker Emilie John stepped up to slot the ball into the bottom left hand corner and level the tie.

The second half saw more Barry pressure piled onto the Albion Rovers defence, but it was another set piece which led to the eventual winner.

A free-kick 15 yards outside the box was left to Gwenno Good, who drilled her effort through both sets of players and into the bottom corner of the net.

Albion did their best to fight back late on, but some stout defending from Emma Overton, Bethan Hardman, Saffron Bowen and Lorna Thomas kept the lead intact to the final whistle.

Barry now sit within touching distance of the top two sides, who they are still yet to play.
