THE 40th anniversary of Welsh Women's Aid has been marked by former charity co-ordinator and Vale of Glamorgan AM Jane Hutt, who paid a visit to Atal y Fro in Barry to honour their work.
The pioneering charity works to tackle violence against women, with the branch focused on improving the lives of women affected by violence in the Vale.
Mrs Hutt said: "Atal y Fro provides pioneering domestic abuse services in the Vale but their aim has also been ‘to prevent’ violence against women.
"The Welsh Government has funded a Wales wide project led by Atal y Fro to support families to help prevent domestic abuse at times of stress and vulnerability.
"I was glad to visit and welcome new director Helen Jones to her post at Atal y Fro.
"As we approach International Women’s Day on March 8, I hope a spotlight will shine on the work we need to do to prevent violence against women in Wales and the world."
