THE following cases have been heard at Cardiff and Vale Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Cardiff.

Jonathan Evans, aged 43, of Lee Road, Barry, pleaded guilty to theft. He was sentenced to eight weeks in prison and ordered to pay £500 compensation and a £115 victim surcharge.

Joseph Chamberlain, aged 25, of Meirion Close, Barry, was found guilty of deliberately travelling by train beyond the distance paid for by his ticket. He was fined £440 and ordered to pay £3.50 compensation and a £44 victim surcharge.

Mark Forrester, aged 45, of Irving Place, Barry, pleaded guilty to possession of a drug, namely speed. He was fined £80 and ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Leon Parsons, aged 44, of Woodlands Road, Barry, pleaded guilty to theft for stealing three boxes of chocolates from WH Smith and fraud for the dishonest use of another person’s bank card. He was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison and was ordered to pay £121 compensation and a £115 victim surcharge.

Alexandria Howells, aged 33, of Barry Road, Barry, pleaded guilty to drink driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, driving without valid insurance and driving a vehicle with no MOT. She was banned from driving for 26 months and was ordered to be fitted with an electronic tag to monitor a night-time curfew for two months. She was also ordered to pay £180 compensation, £85 in court costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Charlie Rutherford, aged 18, of Court Road, Barry, pleaded guilty to assault by beating. He was ordered to be fitted with an electronic tag to monitor a night-time curfew for four months. He was also ordered to pay £400 compensation, £85 in court costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

William Craven, aged 34, of Main Street, Barry, pleaded guilty to three counts of theft for stealing food, a bicycle, and DVDs. He was sentenced to four months in prison, suspended for 12 months, and was ordered to pay £270 compensation and a £115 victim surcharge.

Mari Macey, aged 53, of Plymouth Road, Barry, pleaded guilty to drink driving. She was banned from driving for 16 months and fined £120, as well as being ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Joseph Silverthorne, aged 22, of Pontypridd Street, Barry, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with an antisocial behaviour order. He was fined £80 and was ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
