A SIX-YEAR-OLD girl whose little sister suffers from respiratory problems is preparing to cut off her long locks later this month, in support of those who have helped her sibling.

Grace Vale will be having her hair cut on Sunday, January 28, as part of a charity event she has helped to plan alongside her mother, Claire Brice, and grandmother Kath Thomas.

Sister Mollie, 5, has had respiratory problems since birth and has received treatment for the condition at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales. While Mollie struggles with physical activity and had to have a procedure last year to rectify a twisted windpipe, the family now hope that thanks to the work done by medical staff, Mollie is on the mend.

Inspired to thank those who had helped her sister, Grace decided that she wanted to have her hair cut as part of a bigger charity event to raise money for the hospital.

Once cut, her hair will be given to The Little Princess Trust, a charity which make real hair wigs for children who, due to medical treatment, have lost their own hair.

Grace and Mollie’s mother, Mrs Brice, said her daughter was encouraged after seeing a friend do a similar event last year.

“’She kept saying, ‘I want to cut my hair like Lexi’,” said Mrs Brice.

“I said to her, ‘what if you don’t like it?’ And she said, ‘it’ll grow back’.

“You can’t really argue with that.”

The event, which is being held at Witchill Community Hall between 2-4pm, will feature face painting, name the teddy, a cake sale and more. Entry is free.
