SPECULATION that a body had been discovered near Regent Street in Barry earlier this week has been dismissed by South Wales Police.

Rumours circulating on Wednesday afternoon had suggested that police attended the area earlier that day to investigate after the discovery of a dead body. Whilst police were at the scene however, this was in connection to an unrelated incident and a statement has since been issued to clarify the matter.

"South Wales Police is aware of rumours circulating regarding the discovery of a body in a lane near Regent Street and Evans Street on November 1. We can confirm that there is no truth to these claims.

"A crime scene was established in the area overnight between October 31 and November 1 while officers investigated an alleged assault and that investigation is ongoing."
