BARRY Comprehensive School Team Lanka members were invited to the House of Commons recently.

Head teacher Gerard McNamara and Team Lanka lead teacher Charlotte Bowkett accompanied the pupils, along with school governors Antonia Forte, Karen Walters and Victoria Baldwin.

Sam Goonetillake, the founder of the Helplanka charity, issued the invitation and his local MP for Carshalton and Wallington and Help Lanka patron Tom Brake.

The group were given a detailed tour of the House of Commons and then attended a Help Lanka reception. Sam Goonetillake, Tom Brake, and Charlotte Bowkett gave an overview of the group's charity work during their summer visit to Sri Lanka and presented on what had been achieved by BCS Team Lanka over the many years they have visited the country.

BCS Team Lanka 2017 were praised for their efforts and thanked by the Secretary of State for Wales and Vale MP, Alun Cairns, and Mrs Amari Wijewardene, High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in the UK.
