THE Vale of Glamorgan's building control team are celebrating after winning their category at the Regional All Wales Building Excellence Awards, and will now progress to the grand finals.

David Frost, part of the building control team in the Vale, was awarded the Best Change of Use of an Existing Building or Conversion, at the award ceremony last month.

The award was given for the conversion of the old Fire Station in Trumpton House, Court Road, Barry, a grade 2 listed building, after the large structure had suffered from dry rot and the internal floors had collapsed.

Nominations for the awards are made by the council’s building control surveyors, who are responsible for the supervision of projects through to their completion.

Charles Hunter, the principal building control surveyor for the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “We are extremely proud to have these examples of excellence in construction here in the Vale of Glamorgan. Our Building Control team have forged and maintained strong working relationships with the industry to deliver and promote these examples of best practice and these awards recognise the hard work and commitment of all involved in the process.”

David Frost and his team now progress to the grand finals of the National Building Excellence Awards 2017, which takes place next month.

The team thanked their local sponsors for continuing to support the awards at a local level, including Nina Estate Agents, ACD Skip & Recycling, The Vale Resort, The Glamorgan Gem and Jewson of Barry.
