THIS week our From the Archive section features a photograph of entertainer Ted Rogers pictured with Barry residents Tina and David Simpson when the TV star visited Barry Butlins in the 70s.

Ted Rogers was an English comedian and light entertainer who began his career as a redcoat, but is best known as the host of the Yorkshire Television game show 3-2-1 where contestants had to work out cryptic clues to avoid winning Dusty Bin.

He visited Barry Butlins to do the cabaret on a number of occasions.

He was a friend of Mr Simpson and also did pantomime with him.

Other household names in the entertainment world who also visited Barry Butlins were Bob Monkhouse, Mike Reid, Ken Dodd, Harry Secombe and Warren Mitchell.

The Barry & District News would like to thank Tina and David Simpson, formerly Redcoats and a season hostess and entertainments manager at Barry Butlins, for the photograph and information.
