MINISTRY of Defence standard body armour has been donated to Public Services students at Cardiff and Vale College's Barry campus, allowing them to have a more hands-on approach to learning on their course.

Specialist body armour supplier Deenside, who supply the Home Office and Ministry of Defence, have provided a full set of the armour to the college to be used by those studying the BTEC level 3 custodial environment and powers of arrest modules.

Cardiff and Vale College Public Services lecturer Tom Jones said: "Using industry specific tools and equipment helps our students gather a greater understanding of the nature of the work that our public services undertake on day-to-day activities.

"It’s easy to talk about things like cell extractions, show videos and analyse the thought process and impact upon the officers involved, but by donning the gear and taking part in a physical arrest activity allows for pedagogy in its most raw and effective form.

"On behalf of students and staff I’d like to thank Deenside for their generous gift of equipment – they are helping Cardiff and Vale College deliver next level education through experience, respect and fun."
