YOUNGSTERS from across the area have been voting for the next Youth Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan.

Three members of the current Vale youth cabinet are standing against each other in contention to become the next youth mayor for the authority area.

The elections have been taking place since Monday, October 9, and will continue until Friday, October 13, during Local Democracy Week.

Young people across the Vale of Glamorgan will have the opportunity to vote for what will be the fourth youth mayor for the area.

The three members standing in this year’s election are Daley Chapman, 16, from Barry Comprehensive; Ushenka Rajapakse, 15, from Cowbridge Comprehensive, and Niclas Want, 18, from Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg.

The aim of the election is to make young people more aware of their local council and to encourage them to become engaged and have a say about issues in their local communities.

All young people aged between 11 and 25 are eligible to vote.

The elections have been taking place across the Vale of Glamorgan in schools, youth clubs and throughout youth organisations.
