THE one million pound giant Ferris Wheel in Barry Island Pleasure Park is now complete and ready to rotate with flocks of visitors expected on it this weekend.

The Barry High, a 100-foot high galvanised steel structure designed and assembled by Henry Danter’s son Harry, features 24 carriages seating up to six people in each.

The wheel, the same size as the one in Cardiff Bay, boasts £100,000 worth of flashing lights and is designed to withstand winds of up to 100mph.

It will cost between £2 and £2.40 for each person to ride, making it cheaper than the £5 charged in Cardiff Bay.

The new permanent attraction, positioned deeper within the park and in a different direction, promises better views of the West Country, Island and the fairground itself on a clear day.

The ride forms part of Mr Danter’s plans for the future of the site.

Barry Island Pleasure Park owner, Henry Danter said: “I’ve been on it when it was in Symonds Yat and since it’s been here, but it was cloudy when I went up. The most it will cost is £2.40. I always said I want to give good value for money and I’m delivering on that promise.”

New ride additions to the site include Freak Out and Disco Fever.

And as well as the amusement arcade, the Mirror Maze, Hellraiser, Dragon coaster, Jump and Smile, and dodgems will also be in operation.
