A GROUP of youngsters from Barry will be among 40,000 expected to gather next week for the 21st World Scout Jamboree.
The Barry group will join Scouts from nearly every country in the world for the event in Essex, which is the highlight of the world Scouting calendar.
The Scouts, who expect to welcome 80,000 day visitors, will camp, live and work together at Hylands Park, Chelmsford, for 12 memorable days of celebration and international friendship, making the event one of the biggest adventures in the history of the Movement.
Caroline Cockram, 15, a member of the ESSU Tango unit, Barry, said she was really excited to be representing the town at the event.
The Bryn Hafren Comprehensive pupil, who has been involved in Scouting for five years, said: "We had to go to a meeting and present at an interview the reasons why we wanted to go.
"It's going to be a once in a lifetime opportunity and it's going to be a great experience."
Fellow unit member Michaela Townsend-Ryan, 14, who has been involved with Scouting since joining the Beavers ten years ago, added: "I'm looking forward to new experiences and different cultures and meeting new people."
The Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg student added: "You learn new skills as you get older and go through Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Network and we've started our Leaders Awards."
Fellow Bro Morgannwg pupil, Ben Bertera, 15, joined because his brother was involved and he liked the idea of doing outdoor activities such as boating and camping.
"I'm looking forward to having a laugh and enjoying myself and getting every little bit out of it," he said.
"Things like meeting people, eating their foods, playing their different sports and seeing how different people are."
The scouts have been staging car washes, jumble sales and a range of activities to fund their Camp places.
Lesley Bryan, Leader of 5th Barry Sea Scouts based in Everard Street, Barry, said: "We've got four children going from our group.
"It just sounds so exciting.
"Imagine what it's like with 40,000 scouts."
The Jamboree, which celebrates Scouting's Centenary, takes place from July 27 to August 8.
