TRADERS in Barry's town centre staged a celebratory Party on The Square on Saturday, September 23.
The first-ever event was a festival aimed at highlighting the idea of shopping local.
The Holton Road traders association, supported by Barry Town Council’s Shop Local initiative and the Vale council, hosted the entertainment event, in King Square, from 12pm to 6pm with residents flocking to the area.
The Shop Local Barry scheme was also officially launched for the second time on the day - after making its initial debut at the summer fayre, in High Street, last month.
Madge - a 10 stone Burmese snake - made an impression by delighting children and wrapping herself around Barry mayor, Cllr Nic Hodges and Vale MP Alun Cairns.
Madge was at the library courtesy of the Barry Reptile Centre, which provided a free reptile show..
Barry Community Choir and Perfect Harmony - Barry comprehensive’s school choir – performed and local boy Jack Raymond sang some Blues and Country & Western.
Another local boy Connor Pullen sang Ed Sheeran hits.
The main stage on King Square featured six local bands: Stratosphere, Outback, Fire Fences, Stonehouse, 12 Bore, and Too Toned.
Local theatre school Razzle Dazzle provided a dance show on the main stage.
Butchers John Marshalls provided a barbecue on the square with their homemade burgers and hotdogs on the takeaway menu.
All of this was provided by local business in Barry- even the stage and lighting.
