AT the end of last term the curtain was raised on Barry Comprehensive School's production of Billy Elliot: The Musical.

For the first time ever, the school decided to perform the show over four nights.

As well as featuring exceptional performances on stage, the cast were lucky enough to be supported by a talented live band for every performance.

On Monday and Tuesday, the role of Billy was played by Dylan Hooper (Year 8) and then on Wednesday and Thursday, Kyle Bellamy (Year 7) took over.

They were supported by one of the most talented casts the school has ever assembled.

Jamie Brown (Year 9) and Frankie Weaver (Year 7) took on the role of Michael and were supported by Cameron Morgan (Year 10) as Dad and Harry Morgan Grant and Adam Woolford (Year 13) as Tony and Dad in their final ever Barry Comprehensive School production.

In total, the cast featured 40 pupils from years 7 to 13.

Each and every one of them was responsible for making the production one of the most successful and most memorable pieces of work the school has ever produced.

A school spokesman said: "Feedback from the local community has been overwhelming and we really cannot thank the audiences enough for supporting this production and taking the time to send messages and cards. It really is appreciated.

"During the week we were also raising money for the charity Parkinson’s UK. We are pleased to say that by the end of the week, we managed to raise just over £500. Thank you once again to everyone who contributed to this charity.

"The drama and music department couldn’t be more proud of our exceptional cast and we cannot wait to start work on the next production.

"Keep an eye on the school website for information about upcoming productions which include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, An Audience with Year 7 and Special Guests and The Lion King."
