NURSE Andrew Lauder has been warned he faces a jail term after being found guilty of a number of sexual assaults on women at the hospital where he worked.

Lauder, aged 54, from Wenvoe, was convicted at Cardiff Crown Court of seven counts of groping women over a three year period.

The jury found him not guilty on a further three counts.

Prosecutor Nicholas Gareth Jones said: "He just simply cannot keep his hands to himself. He cannot resist groping other women."

The court heard how Lauder put his hands down one of his victim's tops, telling her: "I'd like to have sex with you in McDonalds."

On another occasion, he grabbed the woman's hair and pushed her head down.

Mr Jones described his behaviour as being "crude and not acceptable in this day and age".

Another witness told Cardiff Crown Court that Lauder forcibly bent her over and growled at her "like a dirty pervert".

She said: "He grabbed his crotch and make sexual gestures towards us on the ward. He made like a growling noise.

"I said to him, 'do you realise you sound like a dirty pervert?' – to which he said yes, so I told him to stop.

"But he said that 'it was even more reason to do it, because I know you don't like it.'"

Lauder was convicted of carrying out the attacks against four female victims. He told the court that the women had fabricated the stories, but he was convicted by jury following a three day trial.

Judge Jeremy Jenkins adjourned the case for sentencing and warned Lauder that it was a distinct possibility that he would receive a prison term.

Judge Jenkins said: "You have now been found guilty by the jury of a number of counts, which are serious counts, of sexual assault.

"An immediate custodial sentence is highly likely."
