ON SATURDAY, Barry Athletic first XI entertained Ponthir at the island and lost the toss and were asked to bat first on a cloudy afternoon in a game reduced to 47 overs after some rain before the game.

Barry reached 192 for 7 in their 47 overs with Shae Ellis holding the innings together with a fine 66, Lee Morgan carrying on his good form with a fine 33 and Lloyd Bruce scoring 17 with Mathew Dennehey taking 3 for 36 for Ponthir.

In reply Ponthir put up a good fight in their chase for 193 but fell 16 runs short of the Barry score as they were all out for 176 with M.Evans 44, M.Harold 24 and J.Evans 21 being their main scorers with Simon Phillips producing figures on 3 for 10 in his 2.4 overs and Lloyd Bruce taking 3 for 42 in his 10 overs as Barry gained another valuable 18 points.

This weekend Barry Athletic first XI travel to Rogerstone with the second XI at home to the same opposition.

Both games are a 12.30pm start.
