THE TWENTIETH anniversary of literary phenomenon Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone has been marked in spellbinding fashion, at a children's event in Barry Library last month.

The Philosopher's Stone was the first in author J K Rowling's series of Harry Potter books and was released back in 1997.

On Monday, June 26, children were welcomed to the library by chief wizards Gillian and Danielle, before being sorted into the four school houses - Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin - by their very own sorting hat.

The houses were then asked to compete against one another in a series of magical tasks, which included wand making and creating magical potions from ingredients such as wolfsbane, salamander blood and exploding fluid.

All trainee witches and wizards passed their classes with flying colours, receiving certificates to mark their achievement.
