CANNABIS worth around £300,000 was discovered at a Barry house thanks to a tip off from a member of the public.

Acting on information from the concerned individual, officers from the priority policing team executed a warrant at a house on Gwenllian Street on June 12 and discovered 400 plants growing across four rooms.

As well as the plants, the team also seized hydroponic equipment and a car.

An 18-year-old was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with producing a Class B drug and remanded in custody.

The teenager is due to appear at Cardiff Crown Court on July 13.

Further arrest inquiries are also continuing.

Detective Sergeant Julian Kerslake said: "This was a significant discovery, and one which clearly demonstrates how seriously we treat information provided to us by the public.

"The public are quite literally our eyes and ears on the ground, and can really make a difference to their communities.

"As always, I would encourage anyone who suspects illegal drug activity is taking place where they live to get in touch to tell us what they know."

The public can report their concerns via 101.
