YMCA Barry gymnastics club are delighted with the success of all of their gymnasts over recent months and have now received even more exciting news.

Five gymnasts attended the Welsh Female Artistic Development Squad in April, Millie Williams, Rosie Bishop, Azaria Karim, Nia Beasley and Lottie Cummins. The club are extremely pleased to have five young gymnasts already at this extremely high level and at such a young age. The trial is designed to test seven to nine year olds gymnasts with the required physical and mental ability to achieve high level gymnastics as they develop. The trial was an intense five hour session which tested their strength, power, flexibility and skill level where all of the gymnasts really pushed themselves and performed excellently.

Out of the whole of Wales, only 33 gymnasts were selected across the three age groups. Fantastically, in the seven year old age section, only 10 gymnasts were selected and two of them were from YMCA Barry, Azaria Karim and Lottie Cummins. Azaria and Lottie will now attend monthly training sessions with the Welsh National Coaches.

In the eight year old category, Millie Williams retained her place with only 13 other gymnasts being selected. Furthermore, due to Millie’s hard work and dedication to the sport, Millie has been selected to train with the National Squad twice a week.
