MORE candidates have announced their intention to secure the vote of Vale of Glamorgan residents in the general election on Thursday, June 8.

Vale resident Alun Cairns said he was standing to be re-elected as MP to build on the major progress made in Barry since 2010.

He said: “The recent announcements from Aston Martin and Qatar Airways and the regeneration of Barry Island are just the start. Unemployment in the Vale is at a record low – with many new businesses creating jobs in the local community.”

Mr Cairns fought against Welsh Labour Government business rate and council tax hikes – whilst at the same time supporting our local high streets through Small Business Saturday and successfully

blocking car Vale council parking charges being introduced on Holton Road.”

Welsh Liberal Democrat candidate, Jennifer Gerioni said: “I am delighted to have been selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate for the Vale of Glamorgan.

"It is a fantastic opportunity to represent my community and promote the values of openness and tolerance that the party stands for.

"The majority of voters in the Vale voted to remain in the referendum and I think it’s important that they have the chance to support a pro EU candidate in the upcoming election. If elected I will fully support the Liberal Democrats' aims to ensure that we remain within the single market and push for a second referendum to allow voters a say on the final Brexit deal.”

Barry resident Sharon Lovell has been selected by the Women’s Equality Party.

She said: “We put equality at the top of the agenda so that everyone can have the right to benefit a fairer and more prosperous Wales. We will make work flexible and childcare affordable by working to promote conditions that meet the needs of women and families.

"We will close the gap between rich and poor by empowering Welsh women to have equal access to opportunities and we will empower young women by creating communities that act on their issues to ensure they are part of a generation where they believe they can be anything they aspire.”
