THE CONSERVATIVES have won the most seats but no party has taken control of the Vale of Glamorgan Council following the local elections on May 4.

They won 23 seats on the county council compared to Labour’s 14, four for Plaid and two independents with Llantwit First Independents gaining four seats.

The results were announced at around 8am on Friday morning at the count which took place in Barry Leisure Centre.

Turnout for the county council elections was 46.78 per cent.

Neil Moore of Labour, the leader of the previous administration retained his seat in Cadoc ward despite the Conservatives taking one seat from Labour there through Rachel Nugent-Finn.

Plaid Cymru held on to Baruc ward with Steffan Wiliam and Nic Hodges with Millie Collins gaining a seat for the party from Labour in Castleland.

Richard Bertin, independent, lost in his ward of Court, with Sandra Perkes of Labour joining Bronwen Brooks.

The Conservatives took Dyfan off Labour with Vincent Bailey and Leighton Rowlands winning the seats from Anthony Powell and Claire Curtis.

Labour held Gibbonsdown but lost Illtyd to the Conservatives.

Adam Riley lost out in Rhoose whilst John Thomas retained his St Athan seat, as did Jonathan Bird in Wenvoe.

The town and community council results will be announced later on Friday (May 5).
