Eleven youngsters and six leaders walked a 13-mile route from Cardiff Bay to the Harbour Road car park, as part of the Welsh 1000 walk, on Saturday, April 22.

South Wales Police sergeant, Mark John said: “The route was along some spectacular coastal scenery and the weather was very kind to us on the day making it a lovely event to be involved in.

“The walk took us just over six hours and it allowed our volunteers to work on their teambuilding skills. When we eventually saw the finish line, it was a great morale boost for all of us.

“We would like to the thank the Seashore Grill in Lavernock who provided refreshments to our group at the half-way point, and all of our friends, family and colleagues who supported us along the way and through various donations.”

The Police Youth Volunteers programme is open to young people aged between 13 and 18 and aims to encourage participants to adopt a sense of good citizenship and leadership skills.

It recognises the role younger members of society can play in improving youth engagement with the police.
