A REAL-LIFE fairy godmother has made a youngster’s dream come true after her birthday party guests failed to show for her big day.

Laura Shire, whose business is Laurz Frosties Cake Design, in Barry, came to the rescue when she discovered a customer, who had collected a cake for Sophie’s seventh birthday party, had reported that no-one turned up.

Ms Shire, also author of a children’s picture-story book – The Cloud That Couldn’t Cry – which deals with childhood emotions, was heartbroken to hear the news.

She decided to give her a gift – an Anna doll from the Disney movie, Frozen.

She posted the tale on Facebook and Barry’s community rallied – organising a birthday party which will take place at Barry leisure centre this month.

Ms Shire, 33, of Rectory Road, said: “A customer collected a cake for Sophie who was turning seven. I later found out that no-one turned up for the birthday party which was so heart-breaking. I decided to send her a gift and posted about it, which turned into the most amazing thing ever. Barry came together for her, gifts have been sent, there’s a new party booked. Everyone’s bringing food, entertainment and, of course, their lovely children.

“We are literally heading to this new party as strangers solely brought together by each other’s kindness. It’s amazing and we are all hoping Sophie has the party she deserves.”

Facebook user Debbie Bevan said she felt inspired. She posted on the site: “This woman, Laura Shire, is amazing - our very own ‘fairy godmother’. After this was posted on Facebook, the fabulous community of Barry got together and are working with Laura to create a wonderful happy-ever-after birthday party for little Sophie. All because of the kindness of one lovely lady Laura. What at an amazing community we live amongst.”

Sophie’s mum, Nicola Beer, added: “What was a heart-breaking weekend has suddenly become something really amazing from one act of kindness from Laura Shire to help put a smile back onto my angel’s face. There have been so many amazing acts of kindness. There are no words good enough. Thank you everyone from the bottom of my heart for all your kindness. You truly are amazing people.”
