A BARRY-based ballet school is trying to raise money to help cover the costs of sending its students to compete in the Dance World Cup.

Ten students of The Nicola Peros Ballet School have qualified for Team Wales and will enter a competition - dubbed the "Olympic games of the dance world" - in Offenburg, Germany on June, 23.

However, the ballet school is now trying to raise about £4,000 to help cover the costs for accommodation, flights, travel costs to the venue and for costumes.

The school principal Nicola Peros said that in order to raise the necessary funds, students will be carrying out a number of fundraising activities, such as bag packing and coffee mornings.

“A £5 donation will cover the cost of ribbons for the shoes for the dancers so anything members of the public can donate will be greatly appreciated," said Mrs Peros.

"We feel that this is an amazing opportunity for local businesses to get behind talented young children in the area and to build a relationship with Nicola Peros Ballet.

"We feel that we have a lot to offer - examination success rate is 100 per cent with grades of merit and distinction.

"Over the years we have had a number of talented young dancers go on to top vocational schools including The Royal Ballet School, Elmhurst Ballet School, Hammond School Chester and Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London. Our students have appeared regularly on the TV."

The ballet school has also put together a sponsorship package for businesses, which includes for a £250 donation a business logo to appear on on the Team Wales tracksuits and the ballet's Facebook page, and a press release for the business.

She added: “We truly hope that you can dig deep to support talented children fulfil their dreams.”
