THE Barry Dock RNLI lifeboat was called into action, following a report of three people in water at Ogmore by Sea, on Monday, March 20.

Porthcawl's Atlantic 85 and D class lifeboats were first launched into rough conditions and began searching the area.

They were on scene for more than two-and-a-half hours before requesting the support of Barry Dock RNLI's all-weather lifeboat.

The request was made because the weather deteriorated during the search.

Barry Dock RNLI's lifeboat Inner Wheel II launched at 9.38pm.

It joined the search alongside Llantwit Major and Porthcawl Coastguard rescue teams, South Wales Police, UK Coastguard Search and Rescue Helicopter based at St Athan, the Welsh Ambulance Service's HART team and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

Inner Wheel II searched an extensive area from Nash Point in Llantwit Major, to Ogmore river, near Bridgend.

Conditions were considered poor with swelling at around two metres.

Marine flares were fired to assist in searching for the three people late into the night.

The search was called off when the UK Coastguard found no sign of the people.

There were also no further reports of people in the water other than the initial call.
