SOUTH Wales Central AM Andrew RT Davies and Vale MP Alun Cairns accompanied environment secretary Andrea Leadsom during a visit to Goldsland Farm, Wenvoe, for a discussion about the opportunities Brexit will bring to farmers.

Ms Leadsom discussed the UK Government’s commitment to securing export markets for local produce after Brexit with Vale farmers Abi and Robert Reader.

Ms Reader was named 2016 Wales Woman Farmer of the Year, and was elected NFU Cymru Glamorgan County Chairman in 2016.

Mr Davies, himself a Vale farmer, thanked Ms Leadsom for visiting and said that local agriculture will have a lot of opportunities after the UK leaves the European Union.

Mr Davies said: “I would like to thank Andrea Leadsom for taking time out of her busy schedule to visit the Vale, and Abi and Robert Reader for hosting us at their Wenvoe farm.

“Her reassurances will be well received by local farmers – particularly her commitment to secure export markets for Welsh produce after we leave the EU.

“Agriculture plays a key role in the Vale economy, and it is good to see strong support from the secretary of state."
