THERE is still time to get training and sign-up for Ty Hafan’s Barry Island Rainbow Run.
The Sully based children’s hospice will stage its second Barry event with the paint splattering challenge, raising money for life-limited children across Wales.
The 5km colour run, or walk, will take place at Whitmore Bay, as the paint-splattering challenge event returns to Barry Island on Saturday, May 13.
The event raises money for children like Scarlett Thomas who was born with a condition so rare it doesn’t even have a name.
She needs 24/7 care from parents Chris and Clair.
Mrs Thomas said: “Scarlett is now three years old. She is a wicked, cheeky and funny little girl. She enjoys it at Ty Hafan and gets so much out of it. At Ty Hafan, they focus on making a short life a full life. Now, we know this really is true.
"Thanks to the Ty Hafan play team, we’re learning how to play with Scarlett, focussing on her strengths instead of what she can’t do - helping her development and improving her (and our) quality of life.
“As long as Scarlett is happy and smiling we can cope with anything.
“Going to Ty Hafan is the only time we get to be a family. In more ways than I can explain, Ty Hafan means we’re no longer alone.”
Ty Hafan marketing and events officer, Mair Kinsey said: “By taking part in our Rainbow Run events, you are helping families like Scarlett’s make the most of the precious time they have left together, as your valued sponsorship allows us to continue offering care and support across Wales.”
