BARRY’S Porthkerry Park has been identified as a venue where weddings could be staged alongside the medieval village at Cosmeston Lakes Country Park, in Penarth.

The sites have been identified as part of the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s plan to safeguard their future.

Couples have stated an interest in holding wedding ceremonies and receptions at both places, the council said.

The council is now looking to work with experienced wedding providers to help deliver the idea.

Vale council cabinet member for regeneration and education, cllr Lis Burnett said: “The countryside services team has received a number of requests from couples interested in holding their weddings and receptions at both Cosmeston Lakes Country Park and Porthkerry Country Park. This is understandable as both locations offer hugely attractive settings for such a special occasion.

“We have two distinctive sites within the Medieval Village of Cosmeston Country Park where people could hold ceremonies, subject to planning consent. The first is inside the village’s Tithe Barn and the second within Reeves Cottage. It will also be possible to hold wedding blessings there. For those who want their reception at Cosmeston, the space next to the Tithe Barn will be available for hire, an ideal spot for small marquees. Part of the meadow at Porthkerry Country Park will also be available to hire and can accommodate similar wedding-reception facilities.

“The council is looking to develop partnerships with experienced wedding providers, who can help organise a couple’s special day. All income raised will be used to run the Country Parks and ensure they remain as special places into the future.”
