THE Vale of Glamorgan Council cabinet has approved the demolition of Brecon Court.

Brecon Court, which is a block of 32 flats and bedsits for older people, is set to be demolished, following cabinet agreement.

During the meeting, it was reported that, despite repairs to the building's drainage system and structural works taking place in 2006, cracks continued to emerge in the main structure.

Councillor Bronwen Brooks, cabinet member for housing, social care and health, said: "There were lots of concerns raised with the residents.

"But the building is not for purpose now and money has been put aside for the demolition."

The cabinet agreed to approve the demolition to reduce the risk of anti-social behaviour at the site.

Cllr Brooks added that she wanted to make a further recommendation to the report.

She said: "I would like to see a further report to come back to cabinet.

"In the report, which I would like to see made in the new year, it will explore and outline all viable options on the site."

No fixed date has been set for the demolition, but it is hoped to take place early next year.
