A HOUSING association serving the Vale has been named as one of five UK homeless people housing projects to be awarded a share of £150,000.

Newydd Housing Association’s Rooms4U will be able to help homeless people –or those at risk of homelessness - to rent a home through a new £150k fund.

The Help-To-Rent funding programme has been commissioned by Crisis, the national charity for homeless people.

The funding allows Newydd to work alongside the Vale council, and partners Wales and West Housing, Hafod Housing Association and United Welsh, to promote a shared housing model in the social rented sector, called Rooms4U.

Homes4U will be used to promote Rooms4U and allocate shared housing in both the social and private rented sectors, as well as develop partnerships between both sectors.

Vale council, cabinet member for housing and social care and health, councillor Bronwen Brooks said: “The Vale of Glamorgan Council is delighted to be working with Newydd Housing Association to deliver such a worthwhile project. Homelessness is a huge problem nationally and this initiative should help some of the most vulnerable people within the Vale find safe, affordable accommodation.”

The winners were announced to delegates attending Crisis, ‘The Private Rented Sector – A Home For All?’ conference earlier this month.

Head of housing at Crisis, Chris Hancock said: “We are delighted to announce the five recipients of our funding programme and look forward to supporting the delivery of these outstanding projects for the next two years. We hope the projects we’ve chosen can share their learning both locally and across the UK, while we continue to make the case for funding.”
