AN INFORMATION stand promoting carers’ rights will held in Barry Hospital’s reception area from 10am to 2.30pm on tomorrow (November 25).

Carers’ Rights Day is an annual national awareness campaign organised by the charity Carers UK, which aims to reach as many of the 6.5 million carers in the UK as possible with information about their rights and the financial and practical help to which they are entitled.

That includes benefits, such as Carer’s Allowance, respite and access to equipment and technology which can help them in their caring role.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council is hosting the event.

Carers’ development officer for the Vale council, James Livingstone said: “This Carers’ Rights Day, we hope many carers will pop along to get general information on sources of information and support, and advice about manual handling queries.

“Carers are able to access information, advice and assistance from the local authority and are entitled to request an assessment of their needs.”

The Vale’s carers’ development officer is available from 10am to 2.30pm and the manual handling coordinator from 10.30am to noon.

The drop-in sessions aim to provide information which could make a difference to carers.

Chief executive of Carers UK, Helena Herklots said: “More people than ever are providing unpaid care to family members and friends. No matter where you are on your caring journey – whether you’re starting to care for a loved one, have been caring for a while, or your caring role has come to an end – it is vital that you are able to get the help and advice you need, when you need it.

"Without this support, caring can take a serious toll on your health, finances and ability to have a life outside of caring.

“No one should have to care alone and Carers’ Rights Day events like the one being run by the Vale council mean that carers don’t have to.”
