PEOPLE are being asked to submit name ideas for a brand new housing development, with a cash prize up for grabs.

Newydd Housing Association is asking Barry residents to submit potential names for a development at Woodlands Road.

To be in with a chance of winning the £50 prize, names should have a local connection or an historic interest.

The £3.5m development of 30 flats will be constructed by Pegasus Development, Greenwich Communities.

Historically, the land was used in the 19th century for Barry's nurses' home and as a maternity hospital in 1897.

During the Second World War the building was converted into a maternity unit for RAF officers' wives, but once again changed in 1955 to become Barry Maternity Hospital.

In 2016 the building was demolished before Newydd Housing Association bought the land in March.

Name entries need to be received by Friday, October 7.

For anyone who wishes to make an entry, email Kathryn Morris at kathryn.morris@newydd.co.uk or send to Newydd, 5 Village Way, Tongwynlais, CF15 7NE.
