Extracts from the Barry & District News of August 19, 1966:

The number of persons registered as unemployed at Barry Employment Exchange on August 8, 1966, was 396 males and 66 females.

This shows an increase of 71 men but a decrease of 11 women on the figures of July 11.

Vacancies were down to 29 male on the skilled trades and to 53 female, mainly in the general factory and domestic fields.

Dinas Powys competitors were among the awards at the Vale of Glamorgan Show, held in brilliant sunshine at Penllyne Castle, Cowbridge, on Wednesday.

Almost 90 mothers entered their babies for the "Baby Show" which was held on Saturday at the Barry Rugby Football Club, organised by the ladies' section.

Despite the holidays, good progress is being made with the five-a-side knock-out competition at the Barry Sports Centre and the final games of all three divisions will be played on Wednesday, September 7 at 6pm.

After the third open meeting of August 6 was postponed due to the flooding of several greens the committee invited all the competitors back on Saturday to play again with the same partners at the same times.

The next issue of the telephone directory serving the Cardiff Telephone Area will be distributed in January 1967, and will contain details of approximately 109,000 telephone numbers, some 10,000 more than the current issue.

It will also include new six digit numbers of those Cardiff and Penarth subscribers whose numbers were changed on July 1, 1966, and will consequently avoid the need for callers to refer to the changed number lists for these numbers.
