A TEENAGER recognised for her exceptional contribution to the community of Barry has arranged her next fundraising event.

Eleri Borges, 15, who was awarded Barry Town Council mayor’s youth award earlier this year, is hoping people will drop in to Golau Caredig extra care home for her Macmillan Cancer Care coffee morning on Friday, August 26.

She is organising the event in memory of her granddad Malcolm Borges who died, aged 80, in 2008. He was cared for by Macmillan nurses.

Eleri, of Barry, said: “Although events might be difficult to organise the feeling afterwards is just great – that tingly feeling inside. I feel I’ve played my part in helping people.

“Even the small things can make a big difference to people. If you only raise £20 it can make a big difference to society. I will continue doing my level best.”

All are welcome to attend the event from 10am to 11.30am to help Eleri reach her target of raising £150.

Eleri, a member of Barry Youth Action for two years, is also a rights ambassador advising children in Gladstone and All Saints C/W primary schools.

The youngster raised £140 for the Teenager Cancer Trust and took part in Sian Laycock’s Walk or Water Appeal in 2015 when she raised more than £450 for Velindre Cancer Care.

Eleri is also currently helping to organise the Showcasing the Youth event scheduled to take place at Barry Island on October 1.
