THE Rotary Club of Barry joined forces with the Inner Wheel Club of Barry on Thursday, June 16 to hold a successful Charity Duck Race in Llancarfan where approximately 400 plastic ducks swam down the stream in two separate heats.

Winners of the heats were Joshua Bourne (duck number 420 - purchased at the Charity Dragon Boat Race in Cosmeston Park) and Aimee Delaney (duck number 143), each winning a £10 cash prize.

The first five ducks in each heat then swam again in the Grand Final which was won by duck number 43, owned by John Askam, who received a £50 cash prize, kindly donated by past president Richard Gibbons.

The event, organised by Rotary Club past president Robin Pitcher, raised £312 and all proceeds went to Rotary and Inner Wheel charities. After the race members enjoyed an excellent meal in the Fox and Hounds restaurant.

Earlier in June the club supported the Rotary’s National Kids Out event by taking pupils from some local schools on a day out by coach to Brean Sands theme park, providing hats and ice-cream for them all.

Monthly donations to the Vale Food bank also continue; the club will be assisting in the collection of food at Tesco’s in Barry at the beginning of July and in August the club will have stalls at the Vale Show.

The Rotary Club of Barry welcomes new members – men and women – who are interested in meeting socially and to continue with the club’s charitable activities by helping others in the community.

Club members meet on Thursday evenings at 6pm for 6.30pm in the Glenbrook. Anyone who would like further information with a view to joining or offering help should contact the club via Phil Hunt on 01446 720000.
