A POLICE commendation event at the Memorial hall recognised the achievements of officers, staff and a Barry citizen on Wednesday, June 15.

Individuals from the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend received commendations from chief superintendent Stuart Parfitt at the evening ceremony held in Barry’s Memorial Hall.

A long list of police officers and PCSOs were recognised for their often life-saving displays of bravery, vigilance, professionalism, dedication and commitment in their roles.

Peter Ford, a member of the public from Barry, was recognised for the bravery he showed when he put himself in danger by helping a man who was being attacked by a group of youths in the town.

Peter Ford was presented with a Certificate of Recognition for his actions on Monday, August 17 last year.

He was travelling along Broad Street, Barry, with his 19-year-old son when he saw a group of youths attacking a man in his 50s.

Without any regard for his own safety he stopped his vehicle and intervened – the youths ran off from the area.

Police constable Naomi Rego and PC Bryan Blatchford quickly responded to an emergency call from somebody who was concerned about a suicidal man in Barry. They found the man suspended with rope from a tree in nearby woods and acted quickly to make him safe. The man was taken to hospital and survived thanks to their quick thinking.?

PC Kelly John was recognised for the outstanding support she provides people in her role as a police officer in Barry. The professionalism and compassion displayed in the line of duty has been noted by the people she deals with and fed back via correspondence of thanks.

Chief superintendent Stuart Parfitt said: “This is a true reflection of work done by police officers day in day out, up and down the country.

“Every day officers get ready to put themselves and their safety on the line and do whatever they can to help others.

“It is my privilege to be able to recognise the achievements of my officers, staff and members of the public in this way.

“They are all shining examples of why South Wales Police continues to deliver an excellent service to people living across Bridgend and the Vale of Glamorgan and it makes me feel very proud.”
