Extracts from the Barry & District News of June 17, 1966:

The weather man was particularly kind to the 1st Barry Scout Group last weekend. Although a heavy thunderstorm occurred about midnight on Friday, the Saturday morning was dull, but dry and the afternoon was brilliant.

Help, co-operation and friendship between children of all nations had a special significance at High Street Junior School this week when a World Children's Day Service was held in the school hall.

It was all hustle and bustle at Butlin's Holiday Camp at Barry Island this week as last minute preparations went ahead to greet the first arrivals at the camp tomorrow (Saturday) morning.

In conditions conducive to good athletic performances - very little wind, not too much glare from the sun and a dry track - the annual sports day of the Barry Grammar Technical School, held on Wednesday week, was destined for success.

During the winter months 'Heddiw', the BBC Welsh magazine feature, visited a number of centres in Wales such as Barry, Caernarvon and Swansea Market and devoted a complete programme to each place visited. These programmes will be repeated on BBC Wales on Saturday evenings during the coming weeks under the title, Allan Heddiw.

Two members of Dinas Powis Golf Club achieved a surprising feat on Saturday when they both holed in one during an open tournament at the club.

Barry visited Cowbridge on Saturday and found that heavy overnight rain had made the outfield soggy and in places waterlogged, but the wicket, although obviously saturated, was just playable.

Barry Cymrics were guests of the Barry Grammar Technical School Masters on Wednesday week and batting first, the hosts were all out for 51 in the allotted time.

With West Monmouth as the visitors, Barry Grammar School 1st XI won the toss on a good wicket and elected to bat.
